ip security cameras
An Internet Protocol camera, or IP camera, is a type of digital video camera that receives control data and sends image data via the Internet. They are quickly becoming the standard for surveillance. Unlike analog closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, they require no local recording device, but only a local area network. Most IP cameras are webcams, but the term IP camera or netcam usually applies only to those used for surveillance that can be directly accessed over a network connection.
Some IP cameras require support of a central network video recorder (NVR) to handle the recording, video and alarm management. Others are able to operate in a decentralized manner with no NVR needed, as the camera is able to record directly to any local or remote storage media.
IP security cameras are set up with an NVR (Network Video Recorder) which can be a wired or wireless system. IP systems have many benefits when compared to others.
Since the IP system uses standard network cabling (Cat 5e or Cat 6,) and with the use of a PoE or injector the cabling cost is reduced when compared to cctv cameras. The cost of ownership is less than a cctv camera over its lifetime. IP systems also have higher resolution and a larger field of view when compared to analog cameras. Due to this wider field of view you can reduce the number of cameras needed to view a specific area and reduce the total cost of ownership. For example, it can take 6 analog cameras to view the same area as one IP camera.
